Behaviour – Care Award – Values and Virtues

Yuluma Primary School prides itself on the good standing of the children and staff within its community.

Our belief is to set clear and consistent goals where we can all feel safe and secure to teach and learn in a warm, welcoming environment.

Positive behaviour is rewarded each term through class incentives; principal acknowledgements; letters of commendation and the care reward. This reward is given to students who demonstrate all the attributes necessary for developing good citizens in our community.

Children need time to learn, self discipline and autonomy, while interacting with others daily. They are guided, counselled and congratulated on their efforts towards these goals.

Yuluma Primary School is a warm, friendly school that offers more than beautiful surroundings, it promotes happy, playful children.

In 2014 we are started a programme of explicitly teaching virtues to the students. The school focuses on a particular virtue per fortnight where the school councillors will inform the students at Tuesday’s assembly.Teachers will educate the students about the virtue and involve them in activities pertaining to that virtue. Virtue vouchers will be given for practising the virtue targeted. By practising these virtues at home you are encouraging your child to use these “gifts of character” within all of us.

Previous Focus Virtues in 2015
Kindness – Kindness is showing you care, doing some good to make life better for others. Be thoughtful about people’s needs. Show love and compassion to someone who is sad or needs your help. When you are tempted to be cruel, to criticize or tease, decide to be kind instead.
Respect – We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. We treat others with dignity and honour the rules of our family, school and nation. Respect yourself, and others will respect you.
Excellence – Excellence is doing your best, giving careful attention to every task and every relationship. Excellence is effort guided by a noble purpose. It is a desire for perfection. The perfection of a seed comes in the fruit. When you practice excellence, you bring your gifts to fruition. Excellence is the key to success.
Courtesy – Courtesy is being polite and having good manners. When you speak and act courteously, you give others a feeling of being valued and respected. Greet people pleasantly. Bring courtesy
home. Your family needs it most of all. Courtesy helps life to go smoothly.
